Roman Faucou Student, 1st year
Each new class entering the Ecole des Mines de Nantes starts by doing a "company discovery week": an intensive program of visits, conducted in small groups with industrial partners of different sizes and varied activities.
Au programme en 2006, le CEA, Beneteau, une fonderie, une verrerie, un fabricant de papier, de la robotique… Les futurs ingénieurs observent, écoutent, et déjà rédigent de mini-rapports.
The program in 2006 included visits to: CEA, Beneteau, a foundry, a glass factory, a paper manufacturer, a robotics manufacturer ... The future engineers observe, listen, and already prepare mini-reports.
"We were often greeted by the HRD, explains Romain Faucou. Although I worked as a factory worker during the summer of 2005, I did not realize how the engineering profession affected people's lives." Everywhere, managers readily answer questions and emphasize the need to "get people to work together", to combine their strengths within a project. Here and there, we gave our ideas on how to talk to operators, to anticipate their demands, and to assign them new tasks to prevent lassitude.
