The Ecole des Mines de Nantes has built its curriculum around two major orientations.
The two major orientations of EMNantes
Within the frame of the multi-disciplinary training at EMNantes, students are able to choose in particular between two orientations after the two-year common core program :
- environmental sciences and energy systems, including nuclear engineering
- information sciences and technology
These orientations meet the evolving needs of industry and the corporate world.
A response to the needs of the nuclear industry…
The revival of the nuclear sector and the development of careers related to sustainable development reinforce the need for engineers with a specialization in these areas.
Thus, the Ecole des Mines de Nantes offers its students in their final two years of study 3 specializations dedicated to Environmental and Energy sciences and technology, including a nuclear option, as well as a specialization in radiation protection.
On completion of their studies in these specializations, graduates from the Ecole des Mines de Nantes are fully qualified to apply to a wide spectrum of jobs offered by large groups such as Areva, EDF, ANDRA.
… And the shortage of computer engineers
Information science careers are shunned, wrongly, by students and young graduates, who see them simply as jobs for technical experts without taking into cosideration the strategic aspect of such positions. However, the field of information and communication sciences is a fast expanding sector in which career opportunities are numerous and varied. The Ecole des Mines de Nantes has responded to the gap between supply and demand as well as the the growing gap between the quality needs expressed by companies and the skills of young graduates from so-called "expert training courses.
The Ecole des Mines de Nantes therefore forms computer engineers who not only have technical expertise but also have a strategic vision of organizations.
