EMNantes has achieved internationally recognized expertise in a wide range of sciences and technologies connected with energy and the environment. In one of it research departments, the Department of Energy Systems and Environment, the research teams are working on the improvement of performance and quality of energy systems, the developement of biofuels and processes of depollution. In the nuclear physics department, Subatech, work is carried out on all aspects of nuclear engineering technologies and has become a reference in the treatment of nuclear waste. Industrial and medical applications complete the panorama of research activities of the department.
