Environmental engineering

Using the concepts and methodologies of process engineering, research developed on this topic focuses on the design, development, sizing and modeling of processes involving solid - fluid interactions in complex media (multiphase, multicompounds, toxic compounds or low concentration). Reaction-transfer separation processes are studied in particular by taking an integrated approach for improving existing processes or the development of innovative processes. This work is based on the study of the mechanisms involved at different levels of the process and calls on expertise in the fields of materials, flow in porous media, liquid - solid gas transfer – as well as chemical or biological reactions.

Research on this topic is based on three approaches:

  • Transfer separation processes
  • Reaction-transfer separation processes
  • Transfers optimization

The practical applications of these studies are in the field of water and air treatment or the recycling of waste. Particular attention is paid to the treatment of low concentration toxic compounds (nanometric or microbian molecules and particles).
Within this field of research work is carried out on adsorbent materials, flow in porous media, fluid - solid transfer or biological or chemical transfer-reaction coupling.
