Organization and markets (ERISSOM)

Ericsson research group - interdisciplinary research team in Social Sciences: Organization and Markets.
The research, which is mainly contractual, focuses on the dynamics of social change. It draws from fields such as the theory of organizations, management of SI and economic sociology. All this research involves the analysis of how the introduction and implementation of new means/devices(information technology, certification, management tools ...) transform organizations and are transformed by them. The research looks into the the nature and dynamics of these devices, their origin, implementation as well as the processes of transformation and subsequent appropriation.

Within the ERISSOM group, there are two main areas of research :

Companies and processes of change. The focus is on formalized devices (IT, competency approach, project organization, rules of labor law etc.) supporting the development and deployment of productive projects. The research also examines how the socio-organizational dynamics are therby redefined in terms of working practices, professions, etc.

Social dynamics of the market. Due to the multi-dimensional nature of the market (productive, social, economic, technological, and political), our approach focuses on multiple mediations, (standards, institutions, mechanisms, official or unofficial, formal or informal) by which individuals or groups contribute to the exchange between a supplier and a demand. Economic activity here is conceived as a social activity. Through the empirical analysis of the conditions of genesis and perpetuation of specific markets, we seek to explain the social functioning of the market, the role of networks, intermediaries, standards etc. and their dynamics
